SMALL GROUP ALASKA LAND TOUR. Maximum 13 passengers traveling with 1 Alaska resident guide in one of our deluxe small coaches. Designated for travelers of age 13 and above.

DAILY ITINERARY: Your escorted vacation is spent fully discovering Alaska and meeting Alaskans. Trip days generally begin 8-9 am and end 8-9 pm, give or take an hour if the day warrants. Travel is at a comfortable pace with time out of the vehicle experiencing many things along the way. Custom and Optional activities can be arranged for an even more personal experience.. Travelers should be able to walk unassisted (at least a block and up a few stairs), and in good medical condition in order to participate in this small group tour. Times listed are approximate and if needed ATG may alter the schedule as needed to suit the situation. Our tours are meant to experience Alaska in a more personal way with more time away from the crowded larger coach destinations. We focus on showing you some of the real Alaska where you’re one in 13 rather than one in 100 or 1000.

Hotel: The Lakefront Anchorage, formerly Millennium Alaskan Hotel Anchorage, offers modern, lodge-like accommodations on the shores of Lake Spenard and Lake Hood. The lobby is rich with displays of animals indigenous to Alaska, including a Kodiak brown bear, polar and black bears. Numerous king salmon, moose and caribou mounts also adorn the spacious lobby. From a lakeside deck, guests can watch over 800 floatplanes land every day at Lake Hood, the largest and busiest floatplane base in the world. Newly renovated 2015, well-appointed rooms.

Hotel breakfast room. 8:00 am meet and greet your Alaskan Tour guide in the hotel lobby, ready to begin your exciting adventure. Travel with a small group, in a comfortable executive shuttle and with an Alaska resident as your driver -guide. Benefit from local resident knowledge and first hand experiences. Your ATG guide provides genuine Alaskan hospitality and concierge-level service so you have the best vacation experience.

Depart for travel north towards Denali. This travel day allows for several stops in route for scenic views, any wildlife sightings, special highlights and of course, any restroom and meal stops as needed.

10:00 am In route stop in Willow, Alaska the heart of mushing country to tour Dream a Dream kennels and meet the team of Vern Halter, a veteran Iditarod musher. Presentations weave the history of the Iditarod into an informative and interactive experience. Meet with the huskies who make up this incredible team of athletes. Enjoy a short nature walk with the newest members, cute puppies abound! Then take a ride on a multi-seat All Terrain Vehicle with the option of standing positions too. These dog limos are the coolest and most realistic way to ride with a sled dog team in the summer months. It’s great training for the dogs and you’ll see how they love it! End with lunch and time to interact with mushers while enjoying lunch.

The Denali National Park Visitor center offers Denali’s visitors a chance to learn more about the park by interacting with rangers, viewing the award winning film “Heartbeats of Denali,” and exploring the exhibit area. The building boasts a number of environmentally sustainable features . The Denali Bookstore offers an extensive collection of educational materials on the natural and cultural heritage of Denali.

Dinner as a group is included.

Sunday, July 26, 2020 – Denali National Park Shuttle – Eielson Visitor Center

8:30 am to 4:30 pm Denali Park Shuttle to Eielson Visitor Center. Denali National Park and Preserve, located in Interior Alaska, centered on Denali (Mt. McKinley), the highest mountain in north America, encompasses more than 6 million acres and provides visitors with the experience of a lifetime. 92 miles long, the Denali Park Road parallels the Alaska Range and travels through low valleys and high mountain passes. It is the only road in the park. Along its route, beautiful landscapes can be seen at every turn, and there are to view Mt McKinley – if weather permits. Wildlife can often be seen, too, though sightings are not guaranteed – they are, after all, wild animals roaming an unfenced land. The Eielson Visitor Center is the turnaround point for your park trip. It features interpretive exhibits and has a ranger led walk program. This also a good place for anyone who wishes hike to do so, it is easier to sign up for open seats on a return bus later. This shuttle travels 65 miles one way, 8 hours round trip if you stay with the same bus. It stops every hour and 15 minutes for view points and restroom stops. It also stops anytime wildlife is sighted. Your ATG guide will arrange for a boxed lunch for you to take along.

Explore Denali your way. Choose from a variety of no-cost to low-cost to added expense adventures and experience this National Park at your own pace. Leisure and no cost is the Denali Visitor Center, front country trails, shopping, relaxing at your lodging.

Free shuttle to Savage River for trail hikes. Low cost includes National Park Shuttles, recommend 8 hour bus to Eielson Visitor Center for best sights and wildlife viewing. Longer shuttles or upgraded tour are available with advance reservations.

Moderate to higher cost adventures include river rafting, a choice of easier floats or exciting whitewater ; ATV tours driving single seats or riding double to quad; unguided lake kayak rentals; Denali Highway Jeep Tours.

11:20 am check in to board The Denali Star, the Alaska Railroad’s flagship train, GoldStar Service from Denali to Talkeetna. On this route, sparkling salmon streams and stands of birch and spruce come into view, while carpets of fireweed add dramatic purple to the landscape. Enjoy first-class service aboard double-deck dome cars. Luxury rail travel has never been better. Reserved upper-level dome car seating, upper-level outdoor viewing deck, exclusive lower-level dining room, lunch and beverages included. Two adult beverages included. Talkeetna, Alaska is a historical frontier town with lots of Alaskan flavor! The rustic and charming community is popular with visitors and offers a lot of hospitality with a choice of delicious eateries, quaint shops featuring local artists and even it’s quirky museums. Some of the best views of the Alaska range and Mt. Denali are seen from this location if weather permits. There’s also a bit of adventure in the town if time or budget allows.

Lodging: Denali Fireside Suites & Cabins. This Talkeetna lodging features hotel quality amenities along with quaint gas fireplaces, rustic log construction, custom log furniture and distinctive Alaskana décor. This suite features two comfortable pillow top Queen size beds.

Breakfast at local diner included. Talkeetna This morning offers a chance for individual custom fun before departing Talkeetna. OPTIONALS subject to 2020 Rates: Southside Denali Explorer Flight tour with Glacier Landing, Jetboat wilderness tour, or Zipline Canopy Tour Afternoon depart to travel south of Anchorage, along the Seward Highway. This National Scenic Byway passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The landscape varies from the muddy waters of Turnagain Arm to the icy blue glaciers that hang almost to the sea. Wildflowers and waterfalls brighten every corner of the road as it glides below rough mountains that pierce thick, heavy clouds. Only Alaska’s Seward Highway can offer this particular mix created by climate, geography, and geology. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a non profit organization that cares for rescued wildlife, injured and orphans. They promote better awareness of Alaska Wildlife conservation methods through public education and they provide a fantastic opportunity to photograph Alaska wildlife up close. See moose, brown and black bear, wood bison, musk ox and many more rescued animals. Hotel: The Hotel Alyeska is a Chateau style property located on Mount Alyeska’s ski slopes. The 60 person aerial tram travels 2300 feet to the Glacier Express and Seven Glaciers restaurants atop Mount Alyeska. Thursday, July 30, 2020 – Spencer Glacier Iceberg Float / Seward, Alaska

Enjoy a leisure morning at the hotel pool and jacuzzi or hiking along the trails to more fully enjoy this resort.

Spencer Glacier Iceberg Float: Take the Alaska Railroad Glacier Discovery Train to the beautiful Spencer Glacier and enjoy an easy raft tour floating amongst icebergs in Alaska wilderness. 1:00 pm check in for 1:25 pm departing train trip south down the Placer Valley leaving the highway behind and into country only accessible by train. Several hanging glaciers appear before the stop at Spencer Glacier. This is another wildlife habitat populated with bear, moose, coyotes and wolves. Swans pause here on their migration, yellowlegs and arctic terns also make their home here. Get up close and personal to the icebergs on this scenic float suitable for all ages. Our experienced and professional guides will row you right up to picturesque icebergs on Spencer Lake. The panoramic views of the Spencer Glacier and surrounding mountains are beautiful. From Spencer Lake, Raft 7 river miles down the pristine Placer River, where the river meets back up with the train tracks the Glacier Discovery train will stop to pick us up. 5:15 pm Arrive at the Portage depot where you continue travel with your ATG guide and coach to Seward, your next destination.

– Kenai Fjords National Park Tour

10:30 am check in for the 6 hour Kenai Fjords National Park tour with buffet. This 6 hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise explores the world of whales, wildlife, and glaciers found in Kenai Fjords National Park. Providing a full narration to your journey, a uniformed National Park Ranger will be onboard to point out the spectacular sights and provide information on the area’s ecology, history, and geology. You will spend time in front of the mighty Holgate Glacier, an actively calving tidewater glacier. Explore the island and coves of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, home to thousands of nesting seabirds including puffins, common murres, and black-legged kittiwakes. Alaska salmon and prime rib buffet is included.

Satuday, August 1, 2020 – Travel to Homer, Alaska/ Alaska Islands & Oceans Center

Travel down the Kenai Penisula to the end of the road and the town of Homer, Alaska along stretches of Scenic Byway with views of pristine wilderness rivers, glaciers, snow-capped mountains and massive volcanoes in route. Drive time between Anchorage and Homer: About 4 hours

The Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitor Center offer tips on wildlife viewing, wildlife refuge information and points of interest. A self-guided tour, featuring sculpted re-creations of wildlife and settings and interactive stations, simulates a journey through the nation’s most far-reaching wildlife refuge. Many of the interpretive programs are outdoor experiences. Outdoor trails lead to Bishop’s Beach through adjoining wetlands. Guided walks and programs are offered daily

A quaint town nestled on the shore of Kachemak Bay offering breathtaking views of glaciers, mountains and wildlife. Homer is known to many as the ‘Cosmic Hamlet by the Sea,’ but it was made famous in Tom Bodett’s tales as ‘The End of the Road.’ This beautiful destination offers a variety of activities . Today is a custom day in Homer where we work to coordinate individual activity preferences.

Choose to relax and enjoy a stroll along the spit, do some beach combing or rent a bicycle for an afternoon ride. If you want added adventure, low cost and low impact is the Seldovia Wildlife tour, or for the more adventurous, you can add ocean fishing charters or sea kayaking adventures of varied lengths. Depart Homer to travel back up the Kenai Penisula along those wonderful stretches of Scenic Byway with views of pristine wilderness rivers, glaciers, snow-capped mountains and massive volcanoes in route. Drive time between Homer and Anchorage: About 4 hours Short stops made in route for points of interests and meal time.

The Begich, Boggs Visitor Center is built upon the terminal moraine left behind by Portage Glacier in 1914. The visitor center offers an unique opportunity to learn about the Chugach National Forest, America’s second largest national forest. Award-winning exhibits and presentations highlight the unique features of the region.

Depart for return travel to Anchorage. City tours are dependent on time allowed and weather of the day. Options include visits to Earthquake Park, Ship Creek, and other downtown locations for shopping or dining or to add small attractions. The Anchorage Market & Festival is hosted on Saturdays with a collection of Alaskan foods, arts and crafts, entertainment.

5:00 pm Dinner as a group is included. After dinner, the escorted portion of your tour ends with check in at the hotel. Next day departures are self-navigated with use of the hotel to airport shuttle.
