August 5, 2022

8:00 am meet and greet your Alaskan Tour guide in the hotel lobby, ready to begin your exciting adventure. Travel in a comfortable executive shuttle, and with an Alaska resident as your driver-guide. Stop in Willow, the heart of mushing country, to tour Dream a Dream Kennels. Meet a veteran Iditarod musher, along with the huskies who make up this incredible team of athletes. You will also get a chance to meet the newest members of the team, cute puppies abound!
Then take a ride on a multi-seat All Terrain Vehicle, with the option of standing positions. These dog limos are the coolest and most realistic way to ride with a sled dog team in the summer months. This is great training for the dogs, and you’ll see how they love it! Another highlight of your Alaska land tour.
Continue towards Denali, with an optional stop in Talkeetna along the way.
Talkeetna, Alaska is a frontier town with lots of Alaskan flavor! The rustic and charming community is popular with visitors. Some of the best views of the Alaska range and Mt. Denali are seen from here.
Continue the drive north to Denali National Park.
Hotel: The Grande Denali Lodge offers vistas of the Nenana River and surrounding mountains that will take your breath away! Spacious guest room with 1 king or 2 queen beds.

HIGHLIGHTS: Denali National Park Shuttle
Denali National Park and Preserve, which is located in Interior Alaska, centers on Mt. Denali, the highest mountain in North America. The park encompasses more than 6 million acres, and provides visitors with the experience of a lifetime.
The Denali Park Road parallels the Alaska Range and travels through low valleys and high mountain passes. It is the only road in the park. Along its route, beautiful landscapes can be seen at every turn, and views of Mt Denali – if weather permits. Wildlife can often be seen, though sightings are not guaranteed – they are, after all, wild animals roaming an unfenced land.
The turnaround point for your park experience will be at Mile 43 of the park road.
Spend your second night Grande Denali Lodge.

Board The Denali Star, the Alaska Railroad’s flagship train, GoldStar Service from Denali to Talkeetna. Enjoy first-class service aboard double-deck dome cars. Luxury rail travel has never been better. Reserved upper-level dome car seating, upper-level outdoor viewing deck, exclusive lower-level dining room, lunch and two adult beverages included. The train departs at 12:20 and your guide will meet you in Talkeetna with your luggage at 4:40 pm.
Depart for travel south to Wasilla, located in the heart of Matanuska Susitna Valley and the sixth largest town in Alaska.

We travel along the Scenic Glenn Byway with its panoramic mountain views and wildlife viewing opportunities. Follow the Matanuska River as it carves its way down from higher country through mountains and valleys. Its headwaters are at the face of the majestic Matanuska Glacier, a 27 mile long, 4 mile wide blue-ice glacier.
The Guided Glacier Hike is a popular adventure, featuring close-up views of crevasses and unique ice formations. With the use of ice cleats, you’ll enjoy trekking to a high point on the glacier which overlooks the ice fall as well as getting up close to the giant seracs. The glacier is in a constant state of change, and you will learn about the various features from an experienced guide as they lead the way. This is sure to be an unforgettable memory on your Alaska land tour because there are few areas where such a hike can be experienced.
Return to the Wasilla area with time to explore the historic town of Palmer. Palmer is a small Alaskan town first settled in the early 1930’s as part of Roosevelt’s New Deal. It’s centered around agriculture and surrounded by impressive mountain peaks.

Depart Wasilla to travel south along the Seward Highway. This National Scenic Byway passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The landscape varies from the muddy ocean waters of Turnagain Arm to the icy blue glaciers visible in the mountains above.
Today is a flexible travel day. With advance custom planning, optional adventures can be added along the way, or in the city of Seward. Activity options vary in pace and price. Some popular activities in Seward include hiking to Exit Glacier or visiting the Alaska Sealife Center. Custom planning is done after the tour is booked.

HIGHLIGHTS: Kenai Fjords Wildlife and Glacier Cruise

10:30 am check in for the 6 hour Kenai Fjords National Park tour with lunch.
This 6 hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise explores the world of whales, wildlife, and glaciers found in Kenai Fjords National Park. An experienced captain will fully narrate your journey and point out the spectacular sights, while providing information on the area’s wildlife, history, and geology. You will spend time in front of a towering tidewater glacier to watch for calving, where giant chunks of glacial ice break off and then crash into the water. Cruise around the islands and coves of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, home to thousands of nesting seabirds. Other possible wildlife sightings include bears, mountain goats, sea otters, seals, sea lions, porpoises, fish, and whales. A deli style lunch or a vegetarian option is included.

HIGHLIGHTS: Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center; Wasilla, Alaska

Travel day north returns along the Seward Highway allowing a second opportunity for magical views and potential wildlife sightings. There is also time to explore some other special points of interest.
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a non profit organization that cares for rescued wildlife. This is a must-do stop because it is a fantastic opportunity to photograph Alaska wildlife up close. Photograph moose, brown and black bear, wood bison, musk ox and many more rescued animals on this Alaska tour stop.
Depart for return travel to Anchorage.
3 pm arrival into Anchorage. Departing flights with a check in time of 3:30 or later are advised (recommend at least 2 hours between check-in and departure times).
City tours are dependent on time allowed and weather of the day. Options include visits to Earthquake Park, Ship Creek, and other downtown locations for shopping, dining or to add small attractions.
*Your Alaska tour concludes in Anchorage with pre-arranged drop off at the airport or hotel. Drop times are scheduled and no later than 7 pm.

Every day is a full day. Some have longer travel but all are designed with time to get out of the vehicle and experience Alaska in a personal way.
ATG reserves the right to alter trip times to accommodate any potential changes or events that may occur at the time of travel. Road construction and other unknown events can alter travel time. Any changes will be made and relayed by your ATG guide at the time of travel to ensure that reserved activity times are met.
