DAY 2 - Alaska Coho Salmon Fishing
Travel to the Mat-Su valley with 3000 rivers, streams and lakes it is among our favorite fishing spots. Natural fishing stocks have been returning at a healthy rate to the Little Su river, Talkeetna river and Big Su river drainages. It offers a fishing extravaganza! The morning is spent dealing with tour orientation needs - Check in at overnight lodging, gear up for lunch and an afternoon remote fishing trip. Coho salmon fishing on the river in remote Alaska wilderness. (We’ll choose which river closer to time, whichever is the hottest!) Return early evening for dinner in a lakeside restaurant known for Alaskan fare. (L,D)
DAY 3 - Coho Salmon fishing/ Hatcher Pass
Another morning on the river for silver salmon fishing. The Little Susitna rushes from headwaters at Mint Glacier in the Talkeetna Mountains near Hatcher Pass, then slows and bends across the lowlands. From the air, the stream looks like a snake, with twisting hairpin turns that nearly double back. The lower river takes 28 miles to cover just 12 miles on the map. Those bends create deep, slow water where fish like to rest and anglers can concentrate their efforts. The number of fishing holes is anything but limited. (Again, we monitor the catching conditions and go where the fish are!)
Explore Hatcher Pass. Take a short nature walk and a tour of the Independence Gold Mine with sweeping views of tundra, jagged mountain peaks and valleys. Glimpse into goldmining’s past and even pan a little gold.
Dinner and overnight lodging in Wasilla. (B,L,D)
