SMALL GROUP ALASKA LAND TOUR. Maximum 13 passengers traveling with 1 Alaska resident guide in one of our deluxe small coaches. Designated for travelers ages 16 and above.
DAILY ITINERARY: Your escorted vacation is spent fully discovering Alaska and meeting Alaskans. Trip days generally begin 8-9 am and end 8-9 pm, give or take an hour if the day warrants. Travel is at a comfortable pace with time out of the vehicle experiencing many things along the way. Custom and Optional activities can be arranged for an even more personal experience.. Travelers should be able to walk unassisted (at least a block and up a few stairs), and in good medical condition in order to participate in this small group tour. Times listed are approximate and if needed ATG may alter the schedule as needed to suit the situation. Our tours are meant to experience Alaska in a more personal way with more time away from the crowded larger coach destinations. We focus on showing you some of the real Alaska where you're one in 13 rather than one in 100 or 1000.
Day 1 - Arrival Day: Saturday, September 1, 2018 - Arrival Day * Unguided* Anchorage, Alaska
Arrive Anchorage, Alaska. Explore Anchorage on your own as time allows. Downtown area hotel in walking distance to Anchorage attractions, shops, dining and activity. We're happy to assist with any information for individual plans this day.
Overnight at the Clarion Suites downtown Anchorage. All two-room suites are elegantly furnished. The hotel offers a wide arrange of amenities, including: *Free hot breakfast buffet *Free Wi-Fi internet access *Free 24-hour airport shuttle service *Free Alaska Railroad shuttle service *Exercise room. Day 2 - Sunday, September 2, 2018 - Travel to Denali / Dream a Dream Kennel tour and ride
Pickup and greeted by Alaskan Tour Guides for 8:15 am departure. Your driver and guide for this tour is an Alaska resident, experienced and knowledgeable of Alaska. They will provide all the details and assistance as needed throughout your travel.
Depart Anchorage traveling north towards Denali National Park in a comfortable executive shuttle with reclining, leather captain chairs, large viewing windows and easy access up two steps and via a full standing center aisle. Travel in a small group of no more than 13 travelers. Stay in Alaskan owned lodging and enjoy adventure with Alaskan owned and operated outfitters who are licensed, insured and experienced in the activity you participate in.
Approximate 1.5 hour drive to the first in route stop in Willow, Alaska, the heart of mushing country for a presentation, tour and short ride at Dream a Dream sled dog kennel.
10:30 pm This informative and fun presentation will help you to learn about this favorite sport of Alaskans and the amazing 1150 mile sled dog race to Nome. Visit with the dog team and love some puppies. Take a short ride behind a real team in a 4-wheel rig over bridges, through the woods and narrated by a veteran Iditarod runner. A wonderful lunch is provided allowing our group more personal time at the kennel. Tour, presentation and lunch time about 3 hours
Continue the drive north to Denali, stops en route are made for scenic and wildlife viewing and rest room breaks.
Overnight at Denali Lakeview Inn. The Inn sits on a quiet lake 10 miles north of the park entrance. Rooms all have sealy posturpedic beds, private bathrooms, decks with lake views and a small breakfast corner in room for you to enjoy a light morning meal. This Inn is a great value over the full service hotels offered on other dates. (Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 3: Monday, September 3, 2018 - Denali National Park & Preserve
9:00 am Check in for Denali Park Shuttle to Eielson Visitor Center.
9:30 am to 5:30 pm Today is a full day in the park experience. Denali National Park and Preserve provides visitors with the experience of a lifetime. Wildlife, bird life, wild flowers, landscapes, mountains and more. On a clear day, this 8-hour shuttle bus trip into the park affords outstanding views of MT. McKinley and the Alaska Range when visible. Opened in June 2008 the completely reconstructed Visitor Center was sustainable constructed and all new interpretive exhibits are well worth the visit. This trip travels 65 miles one way, 8 hours round trip. We suggest anyone desiring more time in the park to hike at the Eielson visitor center and return by a later bus.
Return to the Denali Lakeview Inn for second night stay. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 4: Tuesday, September 4, 2018 - Alaska Railroad - Goldstar Service/ Mat-Su Valley
11:00 am check in to ride aboard The Denali Star, the Alaska Railroad's flagship train, from Denali to Talkeetna. View sparkling salmon streams and stands of birch and spruce come into view, while carpets of fireweed add dramatic purple to the landscape. If the weather allows the views of MT. McKinley are breathtaking. Enjoy GoldStar Service, first-class service aboard double-deck dome cars, luxury rail travel has never been better. Talkeetna, Alaska is a rustic frontier town, known for it's amazing views of MT. McKinley. It is OPTIONAL and additional cost to take a flight seeing tour of MT. McKinley. This is also a highlight that may not be available on last minute reservation.
The Southside Explorer flight with a glacier landing is a 1 hour tour that will fly into the heart of the Alaska range, over glaciers and other amazing sights to where you'll land on a glacier and have a chance to step out onto Mt. McKinley. Simply incredible! 2016 rate $320 adult.
Depart Talkeetna via your small coach to travel to Wasilla for overnight lodging. About 1.25 hour drive.
The Lake Lucille Inn Wasilla, Alaska. At this hotel guest enjoy beautiful mountain and lake views along with comfortable accommodations. Day 5: Wednesday, September 5, 2018 - Scenic Byway/ Alaska Wildlife Center /Begich, Boggs Visitor Center
8:30 am Depart for travel south of Anchorage to enjoy another awe-inspiring scenic drive. The Seward Highway and Turnagain Arm offer incredible views of rugged glacier and snow capped mountains, coastal views of Cook Inlet, and potential wildlife sightings on the way to the town of Seward. We take ample time to stop and observe the highlights. Total drive time today is 3.5 hours, stops along the way make for a leisure and full day of travel.
Visit the Alaska Wildlife Center, an organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of Alaska’s orphaned or injured wildlife. See bear, moose, bison, musk ox and many other rescued wildlife.
The Begich Boggs Visitor Center is built upon the terminal moraine left behind by Portage Glacier in 1914. The visitor center offers an unique opportunity to learn about the Chugach National Forest, America's second largest national forest. Award-winning exhibits, educational presentations, the film "Voices from the Ices," and information services are available.
Overnight lodging at the Seward Windsong Lodge. Guest rooms are spread out in a wooded setting, surrounded by spruce trees and wildflowers. Day 6: Thursday, September 6, 2018 - Kenai Fjords National Park Wildlife and Glacier Cruise

11:30 am to 5:30 pm. Cruise Kenai Fjord National Park to see abundant marine animal and bird life along with tidewater glaciers and Seward's scenic coastal line. See otters, sea lions, eagles and other marine bird life. Watch for whales and calving glaciers and beautiful coastline scenery. A light lunch is served on board.
6:00 pm. Return to Seward Windsong Lodge. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 7: Friday, September 7, 2018 - Alaska Sealife Center/ Alyeska Tram / Depart Anchorage, Alaska
9:00 am Tour the Alaska Sealife Center for a better understanding of this rich marine habitat through interpretive displays and live exhibits.
Depart to return to Anchorage. Travel back along the Seward highway is a second opportunity to see incredible things and a few more small attractions before returning to Anchorage.
Visit the resort town of Girdwood with a tram ride to the top of MT. Alyeska. Enjoy lunch at the top.
Continue to Anchorage and as time allows, last minute souvenir shopping and downtown Anchorage sights depending on individual flight times. (Meals Included: Breakfast)
