SMALL GROUP ALASKA LAND TOUR. Maximum 13 passengers traveling with 1 Alaska resident guide in one of our deluxe small coaches. Family friendly welcomes children ages 8 and above as passengers.
DAILY ITINERARY: Your escorted vacation is spent fully discovering Alaska and meeting Alaskans. Trip days generally begin 8-9 am and end 8-9 pm, give or take an hour if the day warrants. Travel is at a comfortable pace with time out of the vehicle experiencing many things along the way. Custom and Optional activities can be arranged for an even more personal experience.. Travelers should be able to walk unassisted (at least a block and up a few stairs), and in good medical condition in order to participate in this small group tour. Times listed are approximate and if needed ATG may alter the schedule as needed to suit the situation. Our tours are meant to experience Alaska in a more personal way with more time away from the crowded larger coach destinations. We focus on showing you some of the real Alaska where you're one in 13 rather than one in 100 or 1000.
Day 1 - Arrival Day: Monday, July 16, 2018- Arrival Day * Unguided* Anchorage, Alaska
Arrive Anchorage, Alaska. Explore Anchorage on your own as time allows. Downtown area hotel in walking distance to Anchorage attractions, shops, dining and activity. We're happy to assist with any information for individual plans this day. Overnight at the Clarion Suites downtown Anchorage. All two-room suites are elegantly furnished. The hotel offers a wide arrange of amenities, including: *Free hot breakfast buffet *Free Wi-Fi internet access *Free 24-hour airport shuttle service *Free Alaska Railroad shuttle service *Exercise room. Day 2 - Escort Pickup: Tuesday, July 17, 2018 - Dream a Dream Kennel Tour / Travel to Talkeetna / Optional McKinley Flightsee with glacier landing/ Continue travel to Denali
Pickup and greeted by Alaskan Tour Guides for 8:00 am departure. Your driver and guide for this tour is an Alaska resident, experienced and knowledgeable of Alaska. They will provide all the details and assistance as needed throughout your travel.
Depart Anchorage traveling north towards Denali National Park in a comfortable executive shuttle with reclining, leather captain chairs, large viewing windows and easy access up two steps and via a full standing center aisle. Travel in a small group of no more than 13 travelers.
Approximate 1.5 hour drive to the first in route, 10:00 am at Dream a Dream kennels. This informative and fun presentation will help you to learn about this favorite sport of Alaskans and the amazing 1150 mile sled dog race to Nome. Visit with the dog team and love some puppies. Take a short ride behind a real team in a 4-wheel rig over bridges, through the woods and narrated by a veteran musher. A wonderful lunch is provided allowing our group more personal time at the kennel. Tour, presentation and lunch time about 3 hours
Continue travel north with next stop at Talkeetna, Alaska. Visit this rustic frontier town, known for it's amazing views of MT. McKinley. Walk about the quaint town enjoying small shops featuring local artists, visit some quirky museums and one of the several delicious diners featuring Alaskan fare. It is OPTIONAL and additional cost to take a flight seeing tour of MT. McKinley. This is also a highlight that may not be available on last minute reservation. The Southside Explorer flight with a glacier landing is a 1 hour tour that will fly into the heart of the Alaska range, over glaciers and other amazing sights to where you'll land on a glacier and have a chance to step out onto Mt. McKinley. Simply incredible! Added costs
Depart Talkeetna to continue the drive north to Denali, stops en route are made for scenic and wildlife viewing and rest room breaks.
Dinner inroute to Denali. We choose from a variety of good quality restaurants and allow you to order from the menu: an entree, non-alcohol beverage and dessert. Non-market price items only. Plenty of Alaskan seafood choices. Steak options and limited vegetarian. Not all restaurants are able to accommodate Gluten free diets. Travelers are recommended to prepare for any special dietary needs and bring along.
Overnight at Denali Lakeview Inn. The Inn sits on a quiet lake 10 miles north of the park entrance. Rooms all have sealy posturpedic beds, private bathrooms, decks with lake views and a small breakfast corner in room for you to enjoy a light morning meal. This Inn is a great value over the full service hotels offered on other dates.. (Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 3: Wednesday, July 18, 2018 - Denali National Park & Preserve/ Optional Whitewater rafting
8:30 am Check in for Denali Park Shuttle to Eielson Visitor Center.
9:00 am to 5:00 pm A full day excursion into the park allows plenty of time to explore. Denali exemplifies interior Alaska’s character as one of the world’s last great frontiers for wilderness adventure. Today’s highlights are the amazing scenic views and potential wildlife sightings. Park shuttle travel is via bus, non-narrated 8 hour round trip shuttle. The turnaround point is the Eielson Visitor Center. A chance to hike and return on a later bus is possible for the more active. A bagged lunch is provided today. Several options to purchase your needs for the day are made available.

Day 4: Thursday, July 19, 2018 - Alaska Railroad - Goldstar to Talkeetna / Mat-Su Valley
11:00 am check in to ride aboard The Denali Star, the Alaska Railroad's flagship train, from Denali to Talkeetna. View sparkling salmon streams and stands of birch and spruce come into view, while carpets of fireweed add dramatic purple to the landscape. If the weather allows the views of MT. McKinley are breathtaking. Enjoy GoldStar Service, first-class service aboard double-deck dome cars, luxury rail travel has never been better. Reserved upper-level dome car seating, upper-level outdoor viewing deck, exclusive lower-level dining room, complimentary non alcoholic beverages.
Your Alaskan tour guide will meet you with your baggage in Talkeetna to continue the travel about an hour south to the Mat-Su Valley - a borough the size of W. Virginia. This region has over 3,000 lakes river and streams, it’s rich with wildlife, beautiful sights and great activities. Check in to your overnight lodging. Dinner stop in route.
The Lake Lucille Inn Wasilla, Alaska. At this hotel guest enjoy beautiful mountain and lake views along with comfortable accommodations. A guest laundry and free wireless internet available. An extended continental breakfast is provided each morning.

Day 5: Friday, July 20, 2018 - Glacier Hike/ Hatcher Pass / Independence Mine
8:00 am. Depart for travel along a Scenic Byway that offers panoramic mountain views, magnificent blue ice glaciers and wildlife viewing opportunities. Travel follows the Matanuska River as it carves it's way down from higher country through mountains and valleys and up to it's headwaters at the face of the majestic Matanuska Glacier, a 27 mile long, 4 mile wide blue-ice glacier. Drive time 1.5 hours. 9:30 am. check in to trek on an Alaska glacier!
9:30 am The Glacier Hike is a popular trek, featuring close-up views of crevasses, seracs and unique ice formations as well as getting up to a high point on the glacier which overlooks the ice fall. This experience tops the list in many visitors highlights. This activity may be difficult for anyone with knee, back or stability conditions. As an alternative activity, you may take a short nature walk with views of the glacier, and a nearby overlook where we occasionally see Dall sheep. If weather is inclement, we stop for a piece of pie and favorite beverage at a nearby hunter's lodge with views overlooking the glacier.
1:00p.m. A picnic lunch of sandwiches and salads is enjoyed at the Matanuska Glacier State Rec site with views of the glacier. Return to Palmer, along the scenic byway stopping for short photo opportunities of incredible mountain, river and valley views.
4:00 pm Hatcher Pass is breathtaking with beauty. It's granite mountain peaks jut up from the wildflower covered tundra and pristine mountain streams meander through the valley below. Panoramic views and short nature walks are pleasing for outdoor lovers. At the top of Hatcher Pass is the historic Independence Mine, which is protected by the Alaska State Parks to offer a preserved experience of what life was like back in the Gold Rush days. Paved interpretive trails, historic buildings and exhibits can all be explored.

Day 6: Saturday, July 21, 2018 - Scenic Byway/ Alaska Wildlife Center / Exit Glacier
8:30 am Depart for travel south of Anchorage to enjoy another awe-inspiring scenic drive. The Seward Highway and Turnagain Arm offer incredible views of rugged glacier and snow capped mountains, coastal views of Cook Inlet, and potential wildlife sightings on the way to the town of Seward. We take ample time to stop and observe the highlights. Total drive time today is 3.5 hours, stops along the way make for a leisure and full day of travel.
Visit the Alaska Wildlife Center, an organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of Alaska’s orphaned or injured wildlife. See bear, moose, bison, musk ox and many other rescued wildlife.
In Seward, take a short drive along the Resurrection River toward Exit Glacier to observe the topography , vegetation and natural habitats surrounding a glacial environment. Walking routes vary from easy trails depicting the timeline of the retreating glacier to more moderate hiking trails leading up to the face of the glacier and great photo opportunities.
Dinner on your own cost this evening and check into overnight lodging at the Exit Glacier Lodge. Guest rooms are spread out in a wooded setting, surrounded by spruce trees and wildflowers. Furnished and well-appointed with comfortable, Alaskan-Style decor. From your rooms, wander the trails ad mist the spruce and cottonwood forest. (Meals Included: Breakfast)
Day 7: Sunday, July 22, 2018 - Kenai Fjords National Park Wildlife and Glacier Cruise

11:30 am to 5:30 pm. Cruise Kenai Fjord National Park to see abundant marine animal and bird life along with tidewater glaciers and Seward's scenic coastal line with Major Marine Tours. See otters, sea lions, eagles and other marine bird life. Watch for whales and calving glaciers and beautiful coastline scenery. Alaska salmon and prime rib buffet included.
6:00 pm. Dinner at one of Seward's finest restaurant and return to Exit Glacier Lodge for a second night. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )
Day 8: Monday, July 23, 2018 - Seward, Alaska CUSTOM DAY to customize your vacation with many choices: Added cost items - Fishing charters, Sea or lake Kayaking, zipline tours, guide hikes, wildlife excursions and more.

Leisure and free activities include shopping, walking the beaches. Low cost activities are admission to the Alaska Sealife Center.

Day 9: Tuesday, July 24, 2018 - Portage Valley / Alyeska Tram / Depart Anchorage, Alaska
9:00 am Depart to return to Anchorage. Travel back along the Seward highway is a second opportunity to see incredible things and a few more small attractions before returning to Anchorage.
The Begich Boggs Visitor Center is built upon the terminal moraine left behind by Portage Glacier in 1914. The visitor center offers an unique opportunity to learn about the Chugach National Forest, America's second largest national forest. Award-winning exhibits, educational presentations, the film "Voices from the Ices," and information services are available.
Visit the resort town of Girdwood with a tram ride to the top of MT. Alyeska. Enjoy lunch at the top.
Continue to Anchorage and as time allows, last minute souvenir shopping and downtown Anchorage sights depending on individual flight times. (Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch)
